The six TYSC Challenge teams descended on Wilmington May 16-17, 2009 and three came away with hardware. The thunderstorms all weekend created delays and cancellations on the field, but did not dampen the spirits of the players.
The '98 Lazers advanced to the finals of the U10 boys division after posting a 2-0-1 record, their tie being a canceled game. After getting behind early, the Lazers played their opponent even in the 2nd half, but couldn't complete the comeback, taking the silver medal.
The '96 United advanced to the finals of the U12 boys division after posting a 1-1-1 record. But, the Championship game was stopped at halftime due to the weather, so the score at the time stood. Unfortunately, United was behind and would not get a chance for the comeback, taking the silver medal.
The '93 Hibs were in a round-robin division where all teams played each other and winners were decided on a points system. After a 2-0-1 record thru 3 games, they only needed a tie to take the gold. The Hibs were down 1-0 as the weather threatened to cut their last game short. But, in dramatic fashion, they tied the game a few minutes before the weather got too out of control to win their first Seaside Classic in 4 tries.
Congratulations to all players and coaches for a great tournament.
