Strikers Run Out of Time

Last year the Strikers and GCAA played only one time and ended up with a 4-4 tie. Today’s game once again was a great see-saw match and the Strikers came up just short in a 5-4 loss. The Strikers raced out to a 3-0 lead early in the first half but GCAA came back to make it a 3-3 tie at halftime. GCAA then was fortunate to be awarded a penalty kick which led to a score and eventually took a 5-3 lead into the closing minutes before the Strikers quickly scored to make it a 5-4 game. With the clock ticking the Strikers had 3-4 good looks and had all the momentum, but couldn’t quite convert leading to a hard fought, physical and very close 5-4 loss.
As a spectator it was apparent that the Striker coaching staff could have easily pulled the team back into defensive mode after the 3-0 lead, but as they have mentioned to the team (and parents) the focus isn’t on the win, but player and team development on both sides of the field. It was once again a very entertaining and exciting game.
