Strikers Play Hard Against GCAA
In a tough fought contest, the Strikers came up a little short 3-5 against GCAA at home. The positive outcomes from the game included plenty of offensive chances, some nice passing and overall some consistent strong play after the first few minutes of the game. While they quickly fell behind 0-3 in the match due to some strong corner kicks by the opponents and a penalty shot early on due to a hand ball, the Strikers maintained their poise and rallied to make it a 2-3 game at the half. They played a close match in the 2nd half of the game. The Striker defense came together as the game went on and the team had the momentum until the final whistle. Highlights include a goal from Kyle to start the match off of a nice pass from Matt to get the team to a 1-3 score. A few minutes later Jason scored off a nice shot from the top of the box from an Idris pass. The final score was off an unassisted blast from Justin who intercepted the opponent’s goal kick. His kick looked good as soon as it left his foot. Joel, Dylan and Idris did a nice job on both sides of the field and helped to disrupt the passing lanes and get the ball to the wing. Daniel was strong on defense with several key clears and did a great job as the keeper in the 2nd half. Duncan did a nice job playing the middle of the field and maintaining control of the ball and had some good deliveries to his teammates.
Finally, we would like to congratulate Kyle for achieving his 30th goal of the U10 season (Fall 2009 and Spring 2010). Our next stop and the last games for this team will be at next weeks Wilmington tournament. We will (of course) provide a full write-up and we will also recognize our top 3 players for goals and assists for the year in our season ending write-up.
