The present Wave, as well as a few past Wave players, were able to assist the Wolfpack women as ball girls Thursday evening. It was a nice night for soccer, but not a good night for goals. The score was 0-0 at the end of regulation with Virginia getting most of the quality shots on target. With just 58 seconds remaining in the first overtime period the Cavaliers were able to put one in the net. However, there was a bit of controversy as neither team knew if the goal counted. The pack thought it was on an offside play while the Cavaliers celebrated. There was no flag by the assistant ref and no whistle by the center ref and after a brief discussion between the two, the goal was awarded.
For the 2nd time this season, the Wave, plus guests, were ball girls for the Lady Pack. Despite the Wolfpack leading Miami in shots 14-8 and corner kicks 9-1, the Hurricanes came away with a 2-0 win on two 2nd half goals in the 61st and 83rd minutes. The girls, with sharpie markers in hand, waited for the team to sign some shirts, but they quietly exited the field. Oh well, we'll get'em next time.
The TYSC Wave, once again, assisted the Lady Pack as ball girls Friday night. The Pack hosted the High Point Panthers and picked up a 3-0 win with all three goals coming in the first half. It was a great night for soccer and for most of the 2010/2011 Wave; it was their first outing as ball girls. As always, the Pack were gracious enough to sign some shirts for the girls. Coach Lindsey and the U10 Courage also joined in on the fun storming the field to get their share of autographs. Our next ball girl date, Oct 14th. Looking forward to it!
For the 2nd time this season the Wave assisted the Wolfpack women as ball girls. With help from Sarah and Amanda (Rapids) and Megan and Leanne (Freedom) we braved the cold and drizzly weather to see the Pack fall to Duke 2-0. While the game was tied at the half, Duke scored two second half goals in the 58th and 82nd minutes to get the win and finish up the 2009 ACC season. State was able to find the net once, but it was called back due to the whistle being blown for an injured player just a second before the shot beat the Duke keeper.
The TYSC Wave, and Katherine from the Rapids assisted the Wolfpack as ball girls Friday night under the lights at Dail soccer field. For most of the Wave it was their first time participating as ball girls. But, by their reactions after the game, it probably won’t be their last. Coach Lindsey brought the U10 Courage out to join in on the fun and take in some great soccer. It was the first time State and ECU have played since 2000.
Both U12 girls teams, the Wave and the Rapids, are combining efforts to play at the 30th annual Wrangler/McDonalds tournament at Bryan Park, Greensboro N.C.
